About Bangladesh

Bangladesh, the Land of the Bengals, is possibly the most densely populated countries on the planet, and its people are dominatingly Muslim. As the eastern bit of the historical locale of Bengal, the region once framed, alongside what is currently the Indian territory of West Bengal, the province of Bengal in British India. With India’s partition in 1947, it turned into the Pakistani region of East Bengal (later renamed East Pakistan), one of five territories of Pakistan, isolated from the other four by 1,100 miles (1,800 km) of Indian domain. In 1971 it turned into the autonomous nation of Bangladesh, with its capital at Dhaka.

Bangladesh is lined by the Indian territories of West Bengal toward the west and north, Assam toward the north, Meghalaya toward the north and upper east, and Tripura and Mizoram toward the east. To the southeast, it offers a border to Myanmar (Burma). The southern part of Bangladesh opens in the Bay of Bengal.
